1. Improper Bearing Model Selection
Choosing the wrong bearing—one not designed for the screen’s load, speed, or fit—leads to premature failure.
Solution: Use cylindrical roller bearings for high speeds and radial loads (requires exact alignment), or spherical roller bearings to tolerate minor misalignment (no pure axial load).
2. Incorrect Fit Between Bearing and Housing
A too-tight interference fit deforms raceways, causing vibration. A too-loose clearance fit lets the outer ring slide, generating heat.
Solution: Ensure the inner ring fits slightly loose on the shaft (clearance fit) and the outer ring has a snug interference fit in the housing.
3. Inadequate Lubrication & Sealing
Standard grease lubrication plus a 1–2 mm labyrinth seal often fails at high temperatures: grease thins, leaks out, and bearings run dry.
Solution: Switch to circulating thin-oil lubrication with improved seals (labyrinth plus non-contact lip seals) to maintain consistent oil film and keep contaminants out.
4. Ignoring Shaft Thermal Expansion
Shafts heat to 35–60 °C, expanding and stressing a rigid bearing fit.
Solution: Design one bearing end with a transitional (or slight clearance) fit so the inner ring can slide as the shaft expands, while the opposite bearing remains fixed.
